Stop chucking me stats, and throw me a ball!

Following on from my piece, '2 Good, 2 Bad', about getting started in, and making analysis straightforward and engaging for players and coaches alike, I've been thinking a fair bit about what is useful for players.

"Which stat will help me score again?"

"Which stat will help me score again?"[/caption]

The key for me is that any analysis carried out should have some very simple principles:

  • Engage the players

  • Enhance the learning process

  • Improve performance

So what is the best way to do this?

If we are going to engage the players, it needs to be timely, relevant and, potentially the most important factor, accessible.

To enhance the learning process the players need to be challenged, with the correct questions being asked in context to their performance.

Performance can then be enhanced through reinforcing key principles through related practise.

Coach Logic can take care of the first two areas identified; the third one is over to you.

What are the benefits to you and your team?

More time on the pitch to improve.

If you can structure this in such a way that players are engaged in active learning away from the pitch sessions, then this has 2 extremely valuable benefits:

  • Increased time can be spent on the training pitch

  • Greater understanding, learning and improvement occur during this time

I think you would have to go pretty far to find a coach who wouldn’t want access to these benefits.

Effectively using the Video Room tools, and other functionalities such as our Dropbox Integration, available through Coach Logic, is allowing coaches all over the world to do exactly this.

Do you agree, would you add or take anything away?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
