The Difference between Failing and Being a Failure

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FAILING AND BEING A FAILURE

There are two kinds of people when it comes to dealing with defeat or failure. The 1st type is those who let it get to them and see failure as defeat, and then there are those who take the positives and learn from it.

Elon Musk, inventor, engineer and CEO of SpaceX, said "Failure is an option. If things are not failing, you are not innovating enough”.

Reading an article on the US Army and their training methods recently, Lt. Col Ken Dilg of the US Army, explains that we learn most through our failures. We grow when we push ourselves through the toughest times. If you go and ask a group of people what their toughest times in their lives were, and at what times in their lives did they grow and learn the most, I bet those times will match up.

Every experience and trial provides us lessons on how to get better and learn from mistakes or defeat. You have choice, you can forget about it and sweep it under the carpet, or you can face up to it and plan for better next time.

It’s how you deal with it, that’s the difference between the successful people and the unsuccessful ones.

No one grows in comfort. To be able to reach for more, we need to stretch ourselves more, and sometimes that involves failing along the way. We grow from failure and defeat. Understand that there is a difference between failing and being a failure. Having a growth mindset and embracing these challenges is what makes a champion athlete.

Being a Failure:

- Permanent

- ‘Give up' mentally

- Avoiding another try.

Failing:

- Temporary

- A setback

- Part of the journey

- Shows you are stretching yourself.
